    CE Image »

Great image resizer and so much more. Regardless of what you want to do with your image (ASCII art anyone?), this add-on can probably handle it with ease. It also has a bulk tag which is great for wrapping around wysiwyg fields and automatically ensures that any images fit your layout.

    Custom System Messages »

Why isn't this part of the core? Forget those stupid restricting user message templates. Install this instead and use standard templates instead in a jiffy. Plus, use different templates in different scaenarios. Solid as a rock.

    Low Variables »

I only need this for some sites but it's a really solid add-on which makes managing miscellaneous bits of content on a site really easy for clients. It's very flexible and allows for a wide variety of field types including matrix. It's very lightweight to use and can really improve performance over shoehorning channels into doing similar work.

    Matrix »

A lifesaver for adding multiple content items within the one field. This flexible grid field is great for image galleries, listings etc. Be warned: once you start using it, you can't stop!

    Wygwam »

Until the Rich Text Editor bugs are sorted, it's still necessary to buy a wysiwyg editor *sigh*. This is the one we have found to be the most robust and configuration is slick and easy.

    Developer Info »

This goes on every site without question. One click access to all you need to know about your channels. This should be part of core - the default way of drilling down with repeated clicks into channels/categories/fields is enough to give anyone RSI.

    devot:ee Monitor »

Not content with giving us great ways to find and buy add-ons, Devot:ee even provide an add-on so that you can tell at a glance from the CP what needs updating. Not all add-ons co-operate with it, but it's very handy.

    IfElse »

Often when you use conditionals, all branches are parsed and just one is displayed. This may be news to you if you come from a programming background where conditionals work properly! Never fear, just wrap your conditionals with this plugin and watch your query count drop. Happy days!

    Low Seg2Cat »

This add-on is so handy when working with categories. It maps segments in the URL to category fields (id, name etc). So instead of getting in knots with lots of category tags, just let Low save your bacon again.

    Minimee »

Fantastic add-on - so easy to use, solid as a rock and makes a big difference. Just surround your javascript / CSS links with this plugin and it will minify and cache them for you. Awesome sauce!

    MX Jumper »

Before there was Stash, there was Jumper and it can still come in handy for basic cases or when I can't get my head around something with Stash! This lets you move/reuse fields in different parts of your templates e.g. use fields from a channel entries tag outside that tag, which can save you using embeds.

    P&T Field Pack »

Handy field set for option fields e.g. the P&T dropdown lets you set different option labels and values which is much handier than the limited built in dropdown field.

    Stash »

All sorts of things are possible with the legendary Stash. Moving/reusing tags in different parts of your template is the tip of the iceberg. With stash you can persist and cache data in all sorts of ways which can really help with site performance and development efficiency. There is a learning curve however. One of these days I will find time to really get my ahead around it and use the force!

    URL Title Match »

Forces url_title to match the Structure page url, which is how it should always have been! Sometimes in sites using Structure, there is an easy way out when you make use of the url_title field, and this add-on means that you don't need to get clients to fill in both URL fields.

    VZ URL extension »

This is great for URL fields. It checks that the URL is valid on entry and shows a good/bad indicator. Very helpful for clients who may forget their http:// or for spotting when links break down the line.
