Wyvern is built to provide the best content entry workflow possible. It integrates seamlessly with popular modules like Structure, Pages, Taxonomy[EE2], and NavEE[EE2], and is the only editor to support ExpressionEngine's native File Manager.

  • Built on top of the powerful CKeditor.
  • Supports Google Fonts and Typekit.
  • Works with the default File Manager or the Assets Module.
  • Low Variables compatible.
  • Matrix compatible.
  • Show or hide specific toolbar buttons, not just a button group.
  • Create global toolbar configurations, and assign different toolbars to each member group.
  • Creates global variables for all pages (from Structure or Pages modules) in a site for easy inclusion into templates or custom fields. For example: {page_url:23}. 23 is the Entry ID of the page you are linking too. Start linking to pages based on ID, not the URI. This makes the site more portable, and easier to update. TIP: You don’t have to use the Wyvern Fieldtype to take advantage of these global variables. As long as you are using Pages or Structure modules, just enable the Wyvern Extension, and you are good to go.
  • Non-distracting minimal UI.
  • Include your own custom CSS file to be used within the editor itself.
  • Images are inserted into the editor with the full absolute path to the image so it is visible while editing your content, but when saved, the path is replaced with the correct {filedir_N} value, so it is completely portable. No absolute paths are stored in the database.
  • Option to encode ExpressionEngine tags within your markup.
  • Option to obfuscate and automatically link email addresses.
  • Styled to match ExpressionEngine’s built in modal windows.

Hooks Used

If the add-on is an extension, and ties into ExpressionEngine's core files, it will use ExpressionEngine hooks. We are listing any hooks the add-on uses for developers to have an easier time locating other add-ons that they can reference for their own work.

Brilliant. Whenever we’re using Typekit for fonts, Wyvern is the first choice. The only thing it doesn’t offer is custom CSS for each instance.

Doesn’t seem to initiate in the publish tab!

We now use this as our default WYSIWYG editor, after comparing it to Wygwam and Expresso! Works great and we love the dotted line function, makes it very clear to see what the editor is doing. Even useful for non-technical people to see the difference between a new paragraph or a br.

I reviewed a few editors before settling for Wyvern. It works seamlessly with EE. The dotted line is extremely helpful for clients (clients love it). Clients can also select page to link too. Brian’s support is also quick and clear.

My preferred editor for the simple fact that it integrates seamlessly with EE’s native file manager, creating a much more consistent user experience for site administrators.

Very nice. My new default editor over Wygwam. All the same features but cleaner and the dotted guides around formatting are excellent for clients.

Short Wygwam/Wyvern Comparision:

Wygwam editor can delete images from my server (not configurable).

Wygwam can use only one upload directory.

Wyvern is clean and integrates with the EE file manager (can use multiple dirs).

Wyvern can add single WYSIWYG buttons (wygwam only button sets).

This is a much cleaner alternative to Wygwam. Both have their own advantages, but this one is much clearer and easier to understand for clients. And the ability to link to pages is outstanding!

Not yet quite as refined as Wygwam, but the price and the ability to link to Structure pages make this my new default editor.
