This add-on trims the values of entry, forum post and comment fields before saving them in the database. It allows to avoid problems caused by ExpressionEngine's inconsistencies in handling white-space characters.

This add-on trims the values of entry, forum post and comment fields before saving them in the database.
It allows to avoid problems caused by ExpressionEngine’s inconsistencies in handling white-space characters.

The first inconsistency solved by this add-on is this: in ExpressionEngine values of the form fields are saved without trimming,
but outputted trimmed as the values of single variables and not trimmed as the values of variables in conditionals.
This inconsistency can lead to mysterious template bugs,
see e.g. this thread.

The second inconsistency is this: ExpressionEngine does not allow to post comment having “name” or “comment”
field empty, but allows to post post comment where values of “name” or “comment” fields consist of only white-space characters.
The same is the case with Forum module. ExpressionEngine does not allow to start forum thread having empty title or post empty forum post,
but forum thread having title consisting of one or more white-space characters or white-space only forum post is allowed.

After installing and enabling this add-on (no settings to define) you will be free of such problems.
