Is there a way this extension can notify the author of the entry? I tried adding {author_id} to the mailing list, but that wouldn’t work because it’s not a valid email address.

I need something similar to the setting in the Solspace Entry Notifications extension?

Grab the version 1.2.

In it I added following functionality:

If you need to specify that email notification should be sent to entry author or to site admin and do not want to hardcode their email addresses,  use respectively these pseudo-emails in email lists of Mailing List module: author@updatemsg.ee and siteadmin@updatemsg.ee. These pseudo-emails then will be changed by the script into actual emails.
