Hi Wes,
Just a little correction needed in your instructions I think, where to talk about using with Freeform Next:

When using Freeform Next, you’ll need to use the {exp:freeform_next:form} tag instead of the {exp:freeform_next:form} tag.

Those tags look the same?  :-)
