Crashes on EE2.8.1 (SU v1.5.3) with remove_double_slashes() error

Just did an update from 2.7.3 to 2.8.1 and am getting this when I try to open any page on the site
Fatal error: Call to undefined method EE_Functions::remove_double_slashes() in
/system/expressionengine/third_party/subdir_upload/ft.subdir_upload.php on line 1016
There are 3 instances of remove_double_slashes(), beginning at 1016,
and then gets cleaned at line 1239:
$file_name_cleaned = preg_replace('/[^a-zA-Z0-9-\.]/', '_', $file_data['name']);
As a point, the site won’t load with the field type installed. Can’t get past the errors.

Is there support for EE 2.8+ ?

Nothing still..(15 July 14) - sigh.
It’s really a shame - the tool is so useful, but the developer just doesn’t show up.
