Add multiple instances of channels?

Is there any way to include multiple URLs for a channel. For example, I’d include links such as the following…

http://www.mysite.com/channel/view/{url_title}

http://www.mysite.com/channel/{cat_url_title}

no way to do that but i doubt it would be very beneficial anyway as google doesn’t give much if any significance to duplicate content (assuming it is the same content on both urls)

I am inquiring into this issue as well.

I would like to know how you can do a custom string:

e.g.
http://www.keepamericafishing.org/action/region/northeast_region
http://www.keepamericafishing.org/action/article_ne/conserving_the_striped_bass

Where after the “/action/” and “region” or “article_ne” would be dynamic and render to the appropriate page.
These pages do not have the same content on them and are sections and subsections of the site.

Is there a way to post template names and/or sub directories of the parent directory.

These are set up on my site as separate templates apart from each other.  Rather than inputting each one individually, since there are many for each sub directory, I would like to pull these dynamically, is there a way to do this?

i’m afraid not. the module loops through channel/weblog entries and these are what are dynamically put into the sitemap. there is no support for looping through templates and this kind of setup sounds quite specific to your site. in saying that surely there aren’t so many templates that you can’t manually input them are there? or is your setup really unique?!

This was set up by a third party firm and I inherited it about a month ago.  I am going through and manually inserting the page locations.  I just with there was a call out for template group name and template sub group name.  That would make things so much easier.  There are about 100 or so pages on the site, so I suppose I can make due.

Thanks.

hope this isn’t taken the wrong way but having a separate template for each page is definitely not an elegant solution. EE’s templating system is far more powerful and flexible than that and allows for far better setups. i understand that the site was passed on to you though so best of luck with it.

Thank you for responding so quickly.  I really appreciate it.  This is my first foray into ExpressionEngine.  I see that there are includes that I could build and call them out onto channel pages, but I don’t think I am authorized to break the site down and build it back up from scratch.  What other ways are advantageous to build a site like this?

To be honest, I am more comfortable with Wordpress right now, but learning something new is how I got where I am now.

Thanks again,
Will

well i think trying to explain how to build an EE site is beyond the scope of this thread, although there are many excellent resources available, i would recommend eeinsider as a starting point.

good luck and enjoy the journey!

Sorry for the very delayed response. I wasn’t hoping to duplicate single entry pages based on their categories. I was thinking more along the lines of having multiple portfolio pages, based on categories. For example, if all of my projects are entered in a “Projects” channel, and are then are assigned to a category based on project type (Web Design, Logo Design, Illustration, etc.). With the option of adding multiple URLs in a channel, one could include all the single entry pages, as well as portfolio pages that are categorized by a “work type” category and not necessarily have duplicate content, assuming that the info on the portfolio pages isn’t just a rehash of what appears in the single-entry pages.

ok i think i see what you’re saying, unfortunately the sitemap module assumes that the content in any entry will only be displayed in full on a single entry page, and this is the url that should be included in the sitemap. keep in mind that search engines will crawl your entire site, or at least all of the pages that are linked to internally, so the sitemap should ideally be a representation of the most important and content-heavy urls and the others will be subsequently crawled. sorry there isn’t a way to facilitate your setup but i still think that you can use the module to its near-full effect.
