I’ve got a site that has already been submitted and crawled by Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Is there anything I should know before resubmitting the new sitemap.php file to these engines in order to avoid duplicate content? I suspect I should remove the original sitemap.xml file and then resubmit the php one, correct?
Any tips on this are appreciated. Thanks!

yep you should probably remove the xml file so that the old sitemap is not reindexed. there is no danger of the search engines considering your sitemap as duplicate content, it simply provides them with a directory of all of the indexable pages on your site, including those which search engine crawlers could miss.
