This may be a silly question but does PDF crowd work on member-only areas which require a login before accessing? If I were to parse the URL I’m just wandering how PDFCrowd would be able to access it to generate the PDF?

Hi Ian,
Currently PDFcrowd requires external access to the page / information that requires generating. So restricted pages will return the login page (or whatever page the user is redirected to before login).
That said, we’re currently developing version 2.0 that will not require connecting to the API (or paying a monthly subscription) as the PDF will generate from the module, not the external API - expect this update in a few weeks time.

Fantastic! That sounds like a much better fit for my needs. Will it be released under a different name since it wont be using the PDFCrowd API anymore? Looking forward to it.

Hi,
yes it will be separate addon to differentiate it from this as we fill PDFcrowd still has its place.
We’ve got a new website coming soon, so most likely we’ll coincide the new addon with the new site :)
Thanks!

Percipio, if I purchase the PDFcrowd addon now, as I need it immediately, can we cross-grade to the new addon when it’s released?

Hi Brendan,
Sounds like a reasonable request - something we’d not actually thought about.
We can’t cross-grade however… but how about we email all the PDF licence holders when the new addon is live with a $19 coupon code for our new website? Although a bit convoluted, this means you’ll essentially get a full refund of PDFcrowd when you purchase the new one?

Cool, sounds good to me. I’ve just downloaded PDFcrowd, then realised that I can’t test in my local instance…doh!

Hi Brendan,
it should work locally just fine… although you will need to make sure you have the Curl library installed in your local server installation…. and an internet connection to communicate with the API :)

Percipio, are we any closer to the non-PDFcrowd reliant addon being available?

Morning Brendan,
not yet - we’ll do a twitter (@WeArePercipio) update when the beta is ready for testers - it’s still a few weeks off yet though as we have a client work that ‘gets in the way’ of addon dev :)

Hi J
I bought PDFcrowd the other day and have been trying to come up with workarounds for getting it to work with password protected sites.
I thought about the following:
1. creating totally non guessable urls that expire after the pdf has been created
- or -
2. somehow allowing the pdf api into the protected area by ‘whitelisting’ either the user-agent or ip address
I realise that this would require some tweaking to the addon, but this is absolutely crucial for my client. Would either of the above work?
Cheers
Jim
PS I’ve emailed the PDFcrowd team separately.

Hi Jim,
You’re not the only one… :)
Currently the only way around this is to have a non password protected page that is only accessible by the PDFcrowd API… We’ll need to update PDFcrowd to add in this feature though
I’ll chat with the team and the guys are PDFcrowd today to see if we can get this worked in asap. Keep you posted.
On a separate note, version 2.0 that won’t require the API is due out in November… apologies to everyone for the delays, have been super busy with client work as usual.

Hi,
Good news… PDFcrowd will have the option to work in member only / restricted pages on the next update.
eg,
{if logged_in} {exp:pdfcrowd:generate}
{!-- exp template code here --}
{/exp:pdfcrowd:generate} {/if}
We’re just making the final changes and updating the docs & help files and expect to release version 1.0.4 next week.
Thank you for your patince!

Hi all,
you can now download version 1.0.4 that allows you to use PDFcrowd on logged_in pages.
Best Regards,

Been a while since I last asked this question. Percipio, are we any closer to the non-PDFcrowd reliant addon being available?
