How might I use Member Categories to check if a member can post to a certain forum?

Or, if I add member categories, will that member category be available for me in the list of member groups when I’m adjusting permissions for a specific forum? See attached: this image is showing all current member groups. Are member categories available in this list, too?

Member Categories does not have any integration with forum.
You may get it work if you run forums through template engine (using {exp:forum tag), but I did not test that myself so can’t guarantee anything.
There is certainly no way to see member categories in forum Cotnrol Panel

I believe so. But you need to test yourself.
