I am looking for the same.
It works well. but it does not work with Wygwam Fieldtype.
Can you add it ?

We looked at doing this once and it is not easy to get the count of characters on a WYSIWYG / CKEditor field. The counter was originally intended to work on basic text inputs and not potentially complex fields.
