Revert hundreds of lonely cat references to expression engine category

My client site uses lonely cat for the category of hundreds of channel entries

I needed to make a change to the site to add sub categories and as a result this requires the categories needing to auto-assign the parent category.

I think I only used lonely cat to allow me to present a drop down for the category selection in the control panel new entry form and the client is happy to use instead the default check box category selection.

So I need to know how I can revert al category settings for the hundreds of existing entries to use the standard out of the box category? Obviously I don’t want to manually change each one. Would deleting the lonely cat module/plugin cause them to default to the out of the box category?
