Issue with the ‘Sending Emails’ screen hanging

Hi Ben,

First off, thanks for the add-on. It’s been working very well in conjunction with Escort and an external Mandrill account for sending emails in blocks of up to 400 recipients.

One issue though is that when sending emails through Firemail to all of the member groups (the full quota of 400 recipients), the Sending Emails screen that we are not meant to navigate away from completely hangs (10 minutes + before I manually clicked another link). On smaller send volumes it reverts back to the overview screen as normal.

I’ve been opening up a new browser tab to view the CP and see that the emails have all been sent (also verified by activity reports from Mandrill) so I’m happy in that regard, it’s just that my client who sends the emails out on behalf of the site’s members is concerned when they perceive the screen to be hanging. It puts a seed of doubt in their mind.

I’m using Firemail v1.8.12 and EE 2.7.2. Batch size is set to 500, with Query String and Accepted Email Only both set to disabled.

I wonder if you can shed any light on this issue?

glad to hear that FireMail is working well for you. do you happen to know which batch it hangs on? is it the first batch or a batch in the middle of the send process?

it’s the first batch, as all the 400 emails fit into the Batch Size I set as 500. I thought it would be fine to do it like this with such a large batch size as the emails are just getting pushed straight to Mandrill via Escort, and so are (as I understand it) bypassing EE’s default mailing method.

Hi Ben, I thought I’d post an update to you. I’ve updated to v1.8.14 of FireMail and have just sent out an email on behalf of my client. It still hangs on the “sending 421 emails… do not leave this page” screen. Mandrill shows all have been sent. When I clicked in the CP to return to the homepage I had been logged out, and whilst I doubt that was caused by Firemail, I wonder if a script that would normally send me back to the list of emails sent didn’t fire because I was already logged out by this point? Just a thought…

Same thing here, though our batches are 95 for a total of 700 an hour. It only ever sends the first batch of 95, then eventually after considerable time passes we get an Error 500. I’ve contacted our host techs but no solution so far.
