Have you considered adding support for the Twitter button?

The twitter button is actually already supported by ShareThis, and thus this plugin as well. (Although it doesn’t have its own special EE tag). I believe the button is for sharing content though, and not necessarily to allow a one click “follow”. Also the share count displayed alongside of the twitter button is not the same as the native share count twitter calculates. I found a post on the ST forums that mentions this: http://forums.sharethis.com/topic.php?id=77675 I’ll probably add a “native” option if some people might find it useful.

Yes, it’s the counter that I’m interested in being able to place more easily, like I do now on SamHarris.org and hopstudios.com.

I checked out your sites, and you should be able to achieve the button styles on samharris.org pretty easily with this plugin. What you’d probably want to do is go into the extension settings, and set the “display type” for regular buttons, the fb like button, and google plus button to “horizontal count”. This will show the total shares next to the buttons by default.  Then for the actual “share this” button, you could override the default to NOT show the count, by using the parameters display=”” and text=“Share” . In this case you’d need to use a plugin tag for each button. Does that help at all, or am I completely missing your question??? :)
