Hidden Selectable Templates

This is in reference to the feature where you can select which templates will show up in the Structure Template dropdown.
I like to create pages with a certain template, for example, ‘homepage’.
Then I want to prevent this template from being selectable. Obviously I don’t want multiple homepages.
If I hide this from the dropdown… the next time I save the homepage entry, the Structure template dropdown defaults to the next available template and is changed to that.
Perhaps a super-admin could choose from any template, but the refined template selection dropdown would show to other member groups.
If a hidden template has been used for an entry, maybe show the template but make it read only.
Hope that makes sense…

So would a hidden template, or ‘use only once’ template be the optimal usage here?

Some sort of hidden template would be good.
I think ‘optimal’ would be… if a super admin chooses a ‘hidden’ template, then the dropdown is disabled for other member groups.
