File Backups never seem to complete

I seem to have a recurrning issue where file backups never seem to complete (db backups complete fine). By this I mean the progress indicator always hangs mid-backup and no amount of waiting (overnight even) allows it to complete. Please see attached, that backup had been frozen at that point for 10 minutes. This happens on each site that I have Backup Pro installed on.

running EE 2.8.1 - Build Date: 20140314, Backup Pro 1.9.4

HI Eric,

I am having the exact same problem. When I tried to run a manual backup, the database backed up fine but the file backup croaked about halfway through and would not continue. It took five or six attempts before the files backup completed.

I am running 1.9.4 on EE 2.9.0

This is quite the show-stopper. I would appreciate some help to get this working correctly.
