Allows a separate group of templates to be loaded when your site is being accessed by a mobile device.
Noble Mobile
Overview
Noble Mobile allows you to set up separate template groups to be served up for mobile clients.
Usage
Using Noble Mobile is as simple as installing the extension and creating mobile template groups to accompany your existing template groups.
Let’s say you have the following basic template structure:
site
-index
-about_us
-contact
To create a mobile version of your site, you would simply create a new template group called ‘mobile__site’:
mobile__site
-index
-about_us
-contact
When a mobile client is detected, the ‘mobile__index’ template group’s templates will be used instead. If no mobile template is found, the normal template will be loaded.
Template Variables
{is_mobile}
Returns true if mobile client was detected and false if mobile client was not detected.
{is_desktop}
Returns true if mobile client was not detected and false if mobile client was detected.
{noble_mobile:switch_to_mobile}
Outputs ‘switch to mobile’ URL. This URL will set a cookie that forces mobile mode and redirects back to page that the user was previously viewing.
{noble_mobile:switch_to_desktop}
Outputs ‘switch to desktop’ URL. This URL will set a cookie that forces non-mobile / desktop mode and redirects back to the page that the user was previously viewing.
Example:
{if is_mobile}
<a href="{noble_mobile:switch_to_desktop}">Switch to Desktop</a>
{/if}
{if is_desktop}
<a href="{noble_mobile:switch_to_mobile}">Switch to Mobile</a>
{/if}
Additional Information
This extension is very similar to Wouter Vervloet’s Mobile extension. However, instead of using the ‘sessions_start’ hook, it utilizes the ‘core_template_route’ hook to provide a cleaner solution that does not rewrite the segment variables.
