ExpressionEngine 2.x native language support offers only backend support. Multi Language Support extension brings frontend multi-lingual support to ExpressionEngine 2.x.

WARNING

  * Template caching will cause MLS not to work properly!
  * As of version 2.1.x you will see a themes folder in the package. You have to upload the bbr_multilanguagesupport folder within that folder into your EE’s themes/third_party folder.
  * If you upgrade we urge you to BACKUP system/third_party/bbr_multilanguagesupport/ folder and exp_extensions database table OR contact us for support!!.

Features & Benefits

  * 2.1.8 now offers the ability to hide settings and translations panel separately from selected member groups.
  * Now within exp:channel:entries tag pair instead of writing if else statements you can write {bbr-mls:field_name} to output the translated values - if you use custom fields to store translations of channel field values.
  * Let’s you choose whether to save your translations, either in database, or in your file system.
  * Let’s you define a special alias for each added language.
  * Let’s you define your static texts and their translation right on extension settings page. You can either output the contents of defined text either using companion Get Text plugin or by simply using global template variables i.e. if you define a text with key homepage, this tag {bbr-mls-homepage} will output the content of homepage in selected language.
  * Enables you to easily create language switcher menu on your front-end.
  * Compatible with masked system folder configuration.
  * Brings multi-language support to front-end.
  * Let’s you define your own languages
  * Easily add / edit / remove languages.
  * Automatic file creation that routes your site to selected language.
  * Default language mode selection: from browser, user cookies, or user settings.
  * Define default language for front-end (separate from your control panel).
  * Adds five global variables that you can use in your templates: language, language_code, default_language, default_language_code, site_url_pure.
  * site_url modification is optional for improved compatibility.
  * Now comes with a Matrix compatible Language Selection Field type for easier development.

Hooks Used

If the add-on is an extension, and ties into ExpressionEngine's core files, it will use ExpressionEngine hooks. We are listing any hooks the add-on uses for developers to have an easier time locating other add-ons that they can reference for their own work.

  1. sessions_end
  2. channel_entries_tagdata
