Geofinder brings the power of "location based" search to ExpressionEngine — allowing you to create useful, meaningful tools that add serious value for users.

This module enables you to create store locator type functionality with your ExpressionEngine entries. Of course, your content must have latitude and longitude data associated with it. See Geotagger for an easy way to capture latitude/longitude data.

How does Geofinder work?

A simple form gathers user entered address and radius (in miles) and queries ExpressionEngine entries to find matches within the defined radius. Results are sorted by the closest distance and result URL’s are bookmarkable for easy sharing.

Features

  • Geofinder form finds content within user-defined address, city, state and radius
  • Geofinder results show distance in miles and give access to latitude/longitude data for creating maps or driving directions to/from a location.
  • Geofinder creates linkable results for easy sharing

do NOT buy it. it is no longer supported/updated due to priorities given to other software (cartthrob). It is still sold on the website, but useless if it doesn’t work for newer versions of EE

Feature request: when Google returns the status of ZERO_RESULTS, fail gracefully rather than displaying the Expression Engine error page.

Got to agree with what houdini2088 said: Support is nonexistent. A few months back there was a forum at Mighty Big Robot for this particular product, but it’s since been deleted, along with all the user questions/posts (mine included). Frustrating.

Decent add-on but there is NO SUPPORT from the developer (and yes, there are bugs).  The support link here takes you to a forum that you cannot post on.  When you post to a forum that you CAN post on, you never hear back from anyone. In my case the bug is that you can’t use the “offset” parameter.

This is a great add-on. Totally worth the money. Use it with Geotagger. Client is very pleased. Great support too. Jason got back to me right away when I had questions.

If you need location based searching there is no better way to implement it in EE.

Very good add-on although not great in the cheap world of shared hosting (that some clients insist upon). Uses simple XML to load a remote file which many cheaper hosts have disabled. I am going to add a quick example to support to show how i got around this for a 1and1 client…

The only problem I found with this addon is that it doesn’t work 100% when you use commas in the search box.  A quick workaround is to use low’s replace plugin to remove the comma in the search results page when you pass in the segment with the search value.

Perfect for creating geo searches. Use with Geotagger. I just wish variables were available inside {if no_results}. Also, don’t put your Google maps API key in a global template var or it will mess up search locations. URL’s for search page may not be compatible with removing index.php.
