Add-On Type(s)

Expresso provides you with a WYSIWYG editor fieldtype for channel entries. Its main aim is to allow intuitive content editing for your users while respecting your site's design. It is integrated with EE's native file manager, allowing users to upload images and files.

*** Expresso has been discontinued and is no longer available for sale. Thank you for the continued support over the years. Please consider an alternative add-on. ***

A WYSIWYG editor should be lightweight and easy to use, and should not break your design. That is what Expresso sets out to do. There is a choice of either a full, basic or light toolbar, although all toolbars aim to only contain the most crucial text editing buttons. Strict precautions are in place so that pasting text from word or other sources won’t produce ugly html and won’t mess up your design when viewed on the site. You can define the css to be used within the editor so that the site’s design is reflected there, making it easier to see the end result before publishing.

Expresso uses ExpressionEngine’s native file manager so you will feel right at home when uploading and browsing files.

Expresso integrates with NavEE, Structure and Pages and adds links to your pages inside the link dialog. The link, images and other dialogs are also style to match the control panel theme.

Expresso is fully compatible with Matrix, Low Variables, Bloqs, and Content Elements so you can have full WYSIWYG functionality in your third-party fieldtypes.

Expresso is covered by the OEM Closed Distribution License (CDL) of CKEditor.

It’s a great addition and not too expensive. If it connected to Assets, I’d give it 5 stars. If you are using Assets, don’t use this add-on, you will not be able to access any of your sub directories. Peace!

I have been using WYGWAM but it seemed like the job might be better handeld with Expresso so I decided to give it a try. I am soooooo happy. It really is just a little nicer and easier, and is more friendly with the CSS, I think. And more cost effective. It gives nice, clean HTML. Btw, if you are st

A great editor and a fair price! Very easy to config too. I think this will become my default editor from now on!

Great add-on!. A much needed improvement on the default Rich Text field type offering.

After fighting with WYVERN for HOURS (and zero support) I switched to Expresso. So GLAD I did!

Setup was a snap—less than 5 mins after download it was working flawlessly.  Easy to configure and customize.  Love it.

Plus, it’s roughly 1/3 the price of its competitor(s).

Nice job, Ben!

We used to use WYGWAM, but Expresso is now our go-to WYSIWYG editor for our projects.

Easy to set up and great customisation functionality.

The developer is helpful and fast to answer any questions and has already implemented a ‘nice-to-have’ feature.

Brilliant value for a fantastic add-on.

Easy custom toolbars creation was the only missing for me and now it’s got it too! Yay!

Thanks for adding Low Variables support Ben. You’ve just converted me exclusively to Expresso as my default wysiwyg editor.

Love the look and feel of this addon. First class work!

This will be my go-to WYSIWYG from here on out.  No doubt it’s the best value out there, but above all else, the support is amazing!

Expresso has replaced ALL other WYSIWYGs for our client sites. The new NavEE, Structure and Pages module integration makes it the perfect choice for our needs. The developer is very responsive and continues to make this add on better with each release. The text cleaning is awesome. Great add on.

We use Expresso for all our client website now. It replaced NSM TinyMCE wich we used before on our websites.

The bugs we reported were fixed within a few days. Great support!

We also love the fact that it uses the filemanager functions from ExpressionEngine itself.

A great fieldtype with default text cleaning, your paste from Word customers (and you) will rejoice.

The only thing that stops the full five stars is that this is not too customisable considering it’s based on the excellent CKeditor – though I understand this is coming in future a release.

A very well built and well thought out add-on. We bought the multi-site license and couldn’t be happier with using it on all our EE sites.

An excellent client centric replacement for Wygwam. Finally I can stop coaching clients on what NOT to do, stop teaching them how to delouse mark up from pasted Word docs, but they can still paste from Word. Really great client response. Delighted.

Bought the single site license to test it out. Easy to install and set up, and has the exact set of tools that I set up for clients when using other fuller-featured WYSIWYG addons. I’ll be purchasing the developer license ( next.

Not sure what problem Andry has in his setup, but Expresso worked immediately and perfectly for me. I’ve had good support from the devel previously (multi-language module) so I can confidently recommend them.

All I really want now is an associated fieldtype that links to the file browser…

This add-on is not ready for production. Too buggy. elFinder which used for FileManger is not update for long time (they just planed to release next version in this year).
