Makes working with YouTube links and embed parameters a bit more consistent. Generates responsive iframes and clean URLs with requested parameters.

EasyEmbeds for ExpressionEngine

EasyEmbeds is a plugin that makes it easier to use YouTube’s embed parameters in your templates. It can generate a clean URL with optional parameters or render a responsive iframe embed of your selected.

Place the easyembeds folder in your system/expressionengine/third_party folder. Add the css in the easyembeds.css file to your CSS file, or include it with an @import.

There are two tags for EasyEmbeds: the {exp:easyembeds:url} tag and the {exp:easyembeds:render} tag.

Both tags accept the following parameters:

  • link is the actual video link. This is required, and accepts any form of the video link (embed links, the raw URL, and so on).
  • autoplay determines whether the video with play automatically on page load.
  • related_videos determines whether the grid of related videos appear at the end of video playback.
  • simple_player turns on several parameters to create a simplified viewing experience. It removes controls, info, and YouTube’s branding from the iframe, leaving a clean, minimal experience. Note that scrubbing through the video isn’t available with this parameter.

To activate a certain parameter, add it to the {exp:easyembeds:url} or {exp:easyembeds:render} tag like this:

{exp:easyembeds:url link=“YOUR_LINK_HERE” simple_player=“yes”}

Rendering Videos

The {exp:easyembeds:render} tag generates an iframe within a wrapper with a class of fluidvideo. It uses CSS to maintain the video’s ratio, and forces the iframe to take up the width of its parent container, behaving more like a <div>.

Here’s the code output by the tag itself:

<div class="fluidVideo">
  <iframe src="YOUR_URL_HERE" class="fluidFrame" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
