CE Image is an ExpressionEngine plugin that makes powerful image manipulation easy. You can control how images are cropped, resize images to be constrained by one or both dimensions, apply watermarks at different sizes, round corners, rotate, use stackable dynamic image filters (yeah, like Photoshop filters without Photoshop), manipulate multiple images at one time in HTML content, and more...
CE Image is a new and fresh way to handle image manipulation for ExpressionEngine. This plugin allows you to:
- Resize images by width and/or height
- Crop images by width and/or height, and optionally specify alignment and offset
- Apply multiple image filters to achieve exciting effects dynamically (currently 14 different filter types)
- Apply watermarks (very customizable)
- Create rounded corners (very customizable)
- Rotate and flip images
- Save images to different image formats
- Compress jpg images (via the quality= parameter) for smaller file size (faster loading)
- Automatically download, manipulate, and cache images from different sites/domains
- Manipulate images by their URL, server path, or relative path to web root
- Preserve alpha in png and gif images (as much as possible, depending on your server configuration)
- Optionally specify the cache directories on a per entry basis (right from the plugin tag)
- Hide the image’s relative path and/or hash the filename if you don’t want to reveal where the original image is located
- Cache all manipulated images to increase performance
- Automatically re-cache images if their source or watermark images are modified
- Save your manipulated images to Amazon S3
- Add image reflections
- Manipulate multiple images at one time in your WYSIWYG fields or HTML content.

A great plugin with great support. I really love the fallback image option. If you have trouble getting images to load, you might need to use this plugin in conjunction with the Parse File Paths plugin, with parse=“inward”.

The key benefit of CE image is the support, which is fast and helpful. The other resizers might be free, but have no support, it’s easily worth the $8.
