Like the standard Category Archive Tag, but with added control over filtering and display, tons more variables, and even custom field data!
Category Archive Tag, on steroids
Like EE’s standard Category Archive Tag, plus…
- filter by category, category group, entry ID, status, parent-category, etc.
- use any HTML tags you want (not just UL and LI) for nested display.
- tons of entry, category, and member data available for each entry
- Custom Channel Field data
- Custom Category Field data
Category Sorted Entries 2.0
The {exp:category_sorted_entries} tag behaves like EE’s standard Category Archive Tag, but you also get additional filtering and display controls.
Parameters
All the parameters of the standard Category Archive Tag are available.
In addition, you can control the display group, filter entries by entry_id and category, change the tags used for the display lists, and much more.
Variables
Most of the variables available to the {exp:channel:entries} tag are also available in your {exp:category_sorted_entries} tag.
Custom Channel Fields and Custom Category Fields are supported.
Unfortunately, for now, CSE pulls custom field content directly from the database, so more advanced Fieldtypes (e.g. Matrix, Playa) and sub-functions (e.g. image :thumbnail) won’t render fully. This will be addressed in a future release.
Documentation
Detailed documentation, including parameter and variable lists, as well as several usage examples, is available on my website: http://rog.ee/category_sorted_entries
What Happened to the Original?
The original version 1.0 branch of this plug-in is still available for free as Category Sorted Entries Lite. This new 2.0 version is much more powerful, cleaner, and faster, and available as a commercial download.

Makes Categories behave in the way I’ve always needed but was never was able to get thru native EE functionality. Michael is also super responsive. Highly recommended.

Handy add-on that did what I needed, and the developer was very responsive in answering my questions.
