Let’s start with the basics. What is a “devotee”?
dev·o·tee [dev-uh-tee, – tey]–noun
- a person who is greatly devoted to
somethingExpressionEngine. - a person who is extremely devoted to
a religionExpressionEngine; a follower. - an enthusiastic follower or fan: He’s a devotee of
jazzExpressionEngine. - devot-ee.com: a website devoted to learning, teaching, tweaking, extending, and having fun with the ExpressionEngine CMS.
[Origin: 1635–45; devote + -ee]
–Synonyms 1, 3. See fanatic.
Devot:ee was an idea for a site that came about in September 2008 at Masuga Design, while shooting hoops. The only place to get extensive EE-related information is at EllisLab’s own site. There really aren’t any objective, go-to sites that take it any further. We wouldn’t necessarily go to Apple’s site for all the tips, tricks and help for our Apple products – why would we do that for EllisLab products? EllisLab’s forums are great (the best, most useful forums we’ve ever been a part of) – but we had some great ideas to take EE-related information even further – and so devot:ee was created.
ExpressionEngine is also young and doesn’t have nearly the reach of other blogging platforms or content management systems such as Joomla, Drupal, or WordPress. There is a lot of room to grow, and if we can help facilitate that in some way, it will be better for all of us who use ExpressionEngine. More informed, educated users and developers will mean better plugins, extensions, modules and more – which will make building sites with EE an even more enjoyable experience than it already is.
Masuga Design is a member of the ExpressionEngine Pro Network, and has used EE exclusively as the CMS of choice for over three years. We thought it was time to share our knowledge, and make the most comprehensive place to go on the Net for information about EE. We hope you will enjoy the site, and get much use out of it.
