Hello! I’ve recently updated to ee version 2.7.3 and have the latest version of vz url installed (version 2.3.3). When I edit entries in the CP that have the vz url field in it, once the entry is loaded the “idle session detected” modal pops up. Any idea what is going on. I checked to make sure cURL is enabled on the server, which it is (version 7.19.7). Are there any other server side dependancies that I should check? What could be the issue? Thanks!

I changed the control panel session type to “cookies only” and that seems to resolve the issue of the “session idle” modal from popping up but the VZ Url field seems to not be able to check the url for validity. It just spins.

It looks like this is because you didn’t have the companion Extension enabled. That fixes the second problem for sure, and seems to fix the first one as well (although I’m not sure why that was happening in the first place). I will try adding a more prominent notice to the Readme in the next version to make sure people know that extension is there.
Again, sorry for missing this when you first posted it…..

Just a heads up - EE 2.9, extension definitely IS enables, and I am having this issue of idle popups. If I change to cookie only the pop is not an issue but the URL never loads….

I’m also getting “idle session detected” on 2.9.
It’s worked flawlessly on every update except 2.9
Really handy fieldtype by the way.

Sorry for the delay responding. I was out of town, and have been catching up on client work the past few days. I will make time this weekend to look at this problem and find a fix.

It seems that EE 2.9 doesn’t like the way I’ve been passing data from JS to PHP (for the validation) - they must have changed the session handling. The only practical solution I could find involved switching from an Extension to a Module for the server-side part of the code. I have written a simple upgrader, which disables the extension and installs the module on the first page refresh after you update the add-on.
If any of you would be willing, could you try upgrading to the new branch, below, and letting me know if everything works? I have upgraded a few of my own sites with no apparent problems, but you would be wise to back up your database first just in case.

Hello Eli
No more timeouts for me on 2.4 :) but I’m not getting any url validation, just the spinning arrows?
Thanks
John

Wait… 2.4 or 2.9? I haven’t tested it back as far as 2.4 - don’t think I even have a copy of that version any more. If it doesn’t work in 2.9, check that the module got installed, and then if there are any javascript errors in your console.

EE 2.9
VZ URL 2.4
I can see where the confusion arose. :)
Thanks

Ah, right…haha. Did you check if the VZ URL module is installed and whether there are any errors in your JS console?

I uploaded the updated files & installed the module - seems to be working! I’m not having any issues with the URL validation, everything works as expected.
