Purge is an extension for ExpressionEngine 2 that sends a purge request to the Varnish caching proxy (www.varnish-cache.org) upon entry submission/deletion. There is also an accessory option to manually send the request in case you do something like change a category label and need the change to show on the front end.
With Purge, you can keep objects in the cache longer (high TTL value), while still being able to keep your site up-to-date by making sure cached objects are purged when data is changed in EE. This is great for sites who have database-intensive templates and/or highly-trafficked sites.
