The Splitter plugin may be used to split any kind of listings into several blocks with evenly distributed items.
The items to be split can be manually created lists, lists produced by exp:weblog:entries or exp:weblog:categories tags or whatever. The number of items per block is determined automatically and blocks surrounded by <div></div> are created. You may specify a classname to be used in the <div>.

This is one of those seemingly unknown but very handy plugins. Many times I find clients need to divide an undetermined amount of items across columns and this plugin takes care of the problem automatically.
Used to have problems with an odd number of items, but I think that was resolved in 1.1.1.
