This add-on for ExpressionEngine enables you to sort your channel entries with ease. It’s the EE 2.x compatible version of Elwin Zuiderveld’s Reeorder module, with added goods.

Low Reorder comes with a custom field type that is used to store the sort order of each entry. You can assign multiple Low Reorder fields to a field group, allowing for different orders for different uses. In addition to this, you can also filter sortable entries by status, category and expired/future entries.

For example, say you want to display a list of Services on your home page and on your Services page. On the home page, you want to display Services (entries) with status ‘Featured’ in a certain order. On the Services page, you want to display all entries, but in a different order. Just add two Low Reorder fields to the Services channel, apply the correct settings, and you’re done: drag and drop the entries in the right order.

It seems I’m always creating channel entries that need to be sorted by something other than date or alpha. So, I would create my own custom field to sort on. But, this method would quickly become unwieldy with any more than 7 entries. Low Reorder to the rescue! Easy to install and configure.
