After realizing this functionality was not built-in like in WordPress, I discovered this option would work perfectly. In the path to the htaccess file, be sure to include .htaccess at the end of the path (not simply just the folder its in. Once setup though works great!

Works as described and quickly provides a way to remove the index.php from your URLs. Does require some tweaking on certain servers to work properly… errors are prone to appear and need correcting, so as noted by Ryan, it’s best to know what you’re doing when using this add-on.

A very powerful tool that quickly sets up a slew of default .htaccess rules.  In my experience, a few sites don’t deal well with some of these tweaks, so it is best to understand what is going on when you use this tool.  However, it is a very quick way to remove the index.php from your URLs
