Kyara is an addon which performs small modification to your ExpressionEngine database to enable longer maximum characters in a number of control panel fields, such as entry title and custom field labels, changing database tables to specified collation/character sets, and backuping up your database in an easy and flexible way.

Kyara - tools and tweaks for your ExpressionEngine database

Kyara* is a package of tools which performs small modifications to your ExpressionEngine database to enable:

• Longer maximum characters in a number of control panel fields, such as entry title and custom field labels
• Changing database tables to specified collation/character sets

In addition, Kyara includes an easy-to-use and flexible database backup utility.

Among many uses, Kyara is great for clients who require entering longer entry titles or member names, developers who need a few more characters for their template tags, or to enable longer and more complex decorations of field labels using HTML. The backup utility enables complete or partial backup of your database, with more complex options for advanced EE developers.

Features:

• (Field lengths) Optional field counter displaying the number of remaining characters in a field (through accessory use).
• (Field lengths) Simple descriptions on the role of each modifiable field from the module.
• (Table encodings) Quick and easy way to set tables to Unicode (UTF-8) if they aren’t set already.
• (Database backup) backup the complete EE database, or selected tables.
• Available in three languages: English, French and Japanese.

* Kyara comes from the Japanese word “キャラ”, which is a shortened word for “character”.

NOTE: Changes to database values and tables is permanent, which means that values will not revert back to their original values if the module is uninstalled. Reading the documentation and having a backup of your database before making changes with this addon is strongly recommended. Modifications done with this addon are your responsibility only. I am not responsible in any way for data damage or loss.

NOTE 2: ExpressionEngine has been recently updated to version 2.1.2, which may warrant or require an upgrade to the addon. I haven’t tested Kyara in 2.1.2 yet, but plan to do so soon.
