The "Get thumbnail" plugin let's you get the path to any autogenerated thumbnail from a default "File" field within your channel entries tag that you've defined yourself.

Create a new Channel with a custom “File” field. On your upload directory settings add in that the directory should autocreate some thumbnails for your (like “small” 300px height and 300px height). Add an entry to your Channel and upload a new file. Then use “Get Thumbnail” to get the path to your directory’s thumbnail (not supported in current EE version, shame :P)

Example usage:
Get the path to a thumbnail with the short name “small”:
